To create this work, the artist was inspired by the famous Canticle of the Creatures, composed by Saint Francis around 1124. The jute canvas evokes the saint's habit, his choice of extreme poverty in observance of the Gospel. Intertwined flows of colored streams evoke praise to God, along with all his creatures: yellow is my praise for Brother Sun, Sister Moon, and the stars; light blue and white are praises for Sister Water, Brother Wind, the air, and the sky; red is for Brother Fire; green and brown praise Sister Mother Earth, who welcomes us all in the joy of colorful fruits and flowers; black is praise for Sister Death, who unites us all. Scattered across the black stream are coins, evoking the sin of material wealth; however, they are struck by golden lashes, symbolizing Francis's radical choice to strip himself of all material benefits and follow God with humility in love for all his creatures. \n \nThis is my invitation to rediscover a sense of brotherhood with creation, in a society increasingly founded on the accumulation of material goods and individualism; an invitation to strip ourselves of false riches and to seek spiritual happiness in love and harmony with Mother Nature and every creature. \n \n
